7. Crunching the Numbers

According to my calculations (based on recent personal experience), 19 credits + 8 tutoring clients + 4 minors + 4 club executive boards + 3 weekly lessons + 3 on campus jobs + 1 varsity sport = 0 free time and a LOT of stress. 19 credit schedules are certainly not for the weak. I learned that last semester and I swore I’d never do it again, but here we are. It won’t be happening again, though: I’ve planned out all of my remaining semesters and the most I should be taking at any given time is 15 credits!

In fact, my schedule next semester is only 14 credits. Though I’m sure it’ll end up being just as busy, I hope to fill that time with more composing and practicing. I have a lot of projects to get to in the next few months and I plan to share more of that and my process as I work on them.

For right now, though, I’m stuck with my overloaded schedule. I’ve been trying to carve out an hour here and there for breaks, but unless I put them into my Google Calendar and I actually make plans with someone to keep me accountable, they just don’t happen. Ugh.

I keep thinking that once I turn in this project, finish this composition, get past this test, my schedule will open up and I’ll have more time. My roommates will tell you that I’ve said “after this week, things should calm down!” every single week.

The good news is that I’m being forced to take a break over Thanksgiving weekend, which I’m very much looking forward to! I’ll be allowing myself to do some work, but I’m mostly going to be relaxing and spending time with friends and family. So, here’s to being thankful for the privilege to be busy, and being thankful for being able to take a break from it!
